Upward Movement 2026: Common Questions

What is upward movement?
Upward movement lets a candidate who already holds an allotted seat try for a college higher in their preference order. If a higher preference is available in the revised round, you can be moved up to it.
Who can apply, and is it compulsory?
Candidates allotted a seat in the first round may apply. It is optional. Apply only if you want a college higher in your preference list than your current seat.
Will I lose my current seat if I apply?
If you are moved up to a higher preference in the revised list, that becomes your seat and the earlier one is cancelled automatically, with no claim on the earlier seat accepted. You must report at the new institute in person by 9 July 2026; failing that, the new seat allotment is cancelled as well. If you are not moved up, your existing allotment stands, with no fresh fee.
What is the fee, and how often is it charged?
The fee is charged only once per roll number, even if you hold more than one counselling ID.
What are the important dates?
Applications ran 3 to 4 July 2026. The revised allotment list was declared on 7 July, with reporting at the upward-allotted institute from 7 to 9 July. For your current seat, see Allotment Status.
